Pear Culture Museum is located in Zhongke Community in Dongshi. The museum is an organic architecture built on a gentle slope. It is a combination of steel and wooden structures that looks modern but warm with red bricks and white washed walls. The first floor of the Pear Culture Museum introduces the Father of top-grafted pears, Zhang Rong-Sheng and demonstrates how top-grafted pears are grown and harvested. Visitors can learn more about different pears on the second floor. Mr. Zhang grafted the flower bud of Lishan’s New Century Pear with Heng-Shan pear tree and cultivated top-grafted pear. Top-grafted pears later became the most iconic produce in Dongshi. Locals refer to the very first top-grafted tree in the backyard of the museum as a divine tree. The more than forty-year-old tree is a must-visit attraction in Dongshi. There are also four walking trails nearby the museum that allow visitors to enjoy more of nature. Or, you can reserve for a guided tour to learn more about the technique and development of top-grafted pears.
