Built in 1935 by the Japanese government, Taichung Broadcast Studio was the third radio station established in Taiwan. The fact that it was the only building on “Broadcasting Street” with an address number explains its significance in the history of broadcasting in Taiwan. The building itself has 94 windows, each of which is elaborately designed to serve different purposes. Aside from functionality, the windows present a changing composition of light and shadow from sunrise to sunset. It is also a popular tourist attraction for its unique architectural design and yard landscaping which is often spotted in Taiwanese soap operas. Taichung Broadcast Studio is also an artists’ paradise where designers’ work and paintings are showcased.
