It was founded in 1927 and used to be the biggest bookstore for Chinese language in Taiwan. It was the cultural and art center at that moment and the memory of many old people in Taichung. After out of business for many years, it reopened in 2020. The semi-circular arch building of three floors with the appearance in creamy white color hangs a signboard of “Central Bookstore” in golden imprinting in the middle. It is hard to imagine it used to be an old bookstore. The design of the Central Bookstore is thoughtfully reserved the best area with greatest daylighting as the seating area. It also combines café shop with crafts shop as well as a parent-child center and children’s book area. It is suitable to enjoy a cozy afternoon here with a cup of coffee and a book.
