Introduction

Anchor
Luchuan Canal (literally means the Green Canal) was previously known as Xinsheng River. In 1912, the Governor-General of Taiwan at the time saw the beautiful greenery riverside during his investigation tour and then gave it the name “Green”. Luchuan Canal was once polluted due to the prosperous business development in early days. The City Government then spent years to complete remediation of the entire basin and eventually transformed it into a waterfront scenery full of humanistic and cultural atmosphere in this busy and bustling city.

After the remediation, the Canal has registered its own brand and trademarks, where you can see a series of unique designs on its fences, street light stands and manhole covers. The Zhongshan Green Bridge (Xinsheng Bridge) and Ying Bridge (literally refers to the Cherry Blossom Bridge) that have been built for over a hundred year still stand today. The Canal has riverside trails on both sides and the stepping stones crossing the river look like a piano keyboard that makes no distance between tourists and nature. After the sun sets below the horizon, street lights then start to glow a warm yellow color. Strolling in the romantic and leisure atmosphere truly gives everyone great fun. This place is nearby various tourist attractions, such as Taichung Electronics Street, Miyahara, and Taichung Train Station shopping area. Travelers are recommended to visit these places when coming to Luchuan Canal.
