The Jhenxiao’s Monument is a 4-column, 3-window structure with a gate flanked by a pair of stone lions and facade adorned with an Imperial Inscription. Completed in 1848 during the reign of the Qing Dynasty’s Emperor Daoguang, over 100 years ago, the monument was meant to honor Lin Chun-niang, a Dajia resident who did not remarry after being widowed, and instead devoted herself to her mother-in-law’s well-being. As the chaste, modest and filial Lin is an ideal embodiment of Chinese virtues, her Jhenxiao Monument was declared a 3rd-class National Historic Site.
